My Mom is complaining that I'm not posting enough new stuff here -- and I'm staying with them right now!
So, a few bits and pieces of what has been going on.
Last Friday was the end of my (initial) relaxing at my parents' place on Bowen Island. I headed over in the afternoon (the ferry is still never on time) and hopped a bus to downtown.
I met Jamie and Matt at the Harbour Air docks at the foot of Burrard. We then drove up to Jamie and Allison's new place and walked over to Cafe Barney, at 12th and Granville (that link is Blockwalk, where they list businesses by blocks; interesting...).
There we met up with Graham and Evan (sorry it took so long...) and sat down to several pints and some food. Allison joined us as well, and even managed to get her food first.
Back to Jamie and Allison's, a quick whiskey and Evan had Rachel join us there. Graham had to work in the morning, and said farewell, and we headed over to Bar None. Prices were "Vancouver prices", but it ended up being a really fun evening. Found out that Rachel is from Smithers, and so actually knows Kate from when she was growing up there. Crazy.
There was a live band playing -- Barcode. Basically all rock covers, but they were pretty good, and there were tons of people dancing. It was a bit strange that we were the only males under 30, but lots of "eligible" females. We found out later that some of the females were actually on the payroll. So, my pictures of people dancing on the bar might not be so spontaneous after all.
Early Saturday morning Jamie, Matt, and I headed up to Jamie's cabin in Sechelt Inlet. First, Tim Horton's, then off to the ferry. No "Sunshine Breakfast" anymore -- they had stopped production of hollandaise sauce the day before! Not to worry -- Jamie locked his keys in the car. A ferryman and a slim jim took care of the problem...kind of.
A stop at the IGA for supplies meant we bumped into Kate's mom, Mary Kay. She was kind of surprised.
I wanted to cook everything at the cabin using nothing but the wood stove. Success, including some buns I made up a recipe for. They were a bit burnt on the bottom, mainly because the stove was hotter than I expected. Still tasty.
We started work on a natural hot tub to built on the side of the cliff, and just generally enjoyed cabin living (note: Sleeman 5L mini-kegs taste delicious).
So that already brings us pretty close to today. There are, of course, new pictures to look at as well.
