Facebook is Mall of America

Facebook

In the office today, we talked more Facebook. It's an important component of the industry we play in.

Here's a little analogy that we think is right:

Facebook is to the Internet as the Mall of America is to the rest of the world: there are a lot of people, activity and commerce on the inside, and you definitely want a stall/shop/exhibit there, but your warehouse, your home base, is always going to be on the outside.

Sure is fun thinking about how all these things intertwingle....

Especially now that facebook

Especially now that facebook is open to anyone I would have to agree - haveing a presence is a must. For some things this is an easy fit - especially stuff that relates to twenty-somethings on a broad sense. However, I've found that with some sites I just don't know how to get them "intertwingled". For example I have a Visual Basic Source site that appeals to all age groups. I know there are a ton of up and coming developers that fit the facebook age group. However, I just can't seem to figure out the best way to get my tutorials to them. Any advice? How do I get my VB sample site worked into FB?

Create a page

Create a page for your site, and then add the RSS feed from your site to the page -- users will see the content from your site as notes inside Facebook.

hmm - ive made facebook my

hmm - ive made facebook my new "goto" home on the net - have I drank the cool aid?

what is your current "home base" on the internet?

My home is this site

I haven't yet completed aggregating everything. But "me" on the Internet is this site. I tend to use FB mainly to do two things -- connect with what friends and acquaintances are doing in "real life", and to promote/organize wider public events.

Facebook, at the end of the day, is just one of the first examples we've seen of many really nicely integrated pieces of functionality...but it's not the open and standards-based Internet. If it doesn't work across the cloud using standard APIs and interfaces...it doesn't count.
