It's bad enough that I once worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car and got to see the horrors of owning Chevy products, or all domestic cars for that matter. Now I see that same company putting out ads with a bunch of "life's morals" if nothing else. But intersperssed with those life's morals are, not only a bunch of Chevy products, new and old, but several morals I find rather... well... pathetically in their interest:
"Have a principle, not a price."
"Never go back on your word."
These principles, while in other contexts might seem reasonable, are entirely unreasonable to be in a car commercial. It is as if Chevy is trying to encourage people to equate the smart things in life with Chevy products, and then to try and imbue some sort of moral consumerism in the people who like Chevy products, and to forget about price entirely.
Overall, I feel fortunate that the unique Entrepreneurship program at UVic and groups like Adbusters have helped to bring all sorts of education to capitalism. And I'm glad I'm smart enough to be able to see a possible alternative meaning to otherwise smart, sensible morals to have in life, brought to us by Chevy (tm).
