Purchased in 2000 by The Nature Conservatory, Palmyra Atoll was for sale by its private owners when we visited in 1993.

Here we are getting our first glimpse of the atoll on the horizon. It was the first really remote place we visited.

I don't remember exactly what the activity was, but I vaguely remember that it involved wandering off into a secluded corner of beach/palm trees, out of sight of anyone, and just sitting and thinking, silently.

Barely, just barely, I can still remember a few, key moments like that -- my mind drained of all cares and worries, at one with nature. A slight breeze blowing, sunlight bright, but shadows from the foliage around me, only slight sounds of lapping water and a few birds.
