At the beginning of November 2005, I wiped my Powermac and did a fresh Tiger install. I'm doing a couple of things a little differently, including (trying to) keep a log of various essential installs. The weblinks organized underneath this page will be to all the things I consider to be essential, at least for this desktop install which is not my main machine, but is the always-on box that I have running at home.

One thing I'm doing to try and keep tabs on the "extras" I've installed is to use Spotlight comments: every app gets the comment "Installed". I had used this in the past for a "testing" label, but I think I want to keep this machine a little more stable this time around, so no testing stuff is going to go on here.
