Nortel bought Netgear a long time ago, but then spun them off or pulled some other trick. I always thought there was lots of potential there.
Obviously, Cisco sees something similar. Executives are talking about "next generation home networking solutions". Man, this feels like deja vu. I tried and tried and tried to push Nortel in this direction, but there was nobody around to listen. Of course, it is all taking a lot longer than I expected, but....
Well, could have would have should have. Good luck, Nortel -- Cisco is going to continue to tie all sorts of pieces of the network to its gear, from end points to mid points to honkin routers.
And they only paid $500M...in stock, no less...

I'm a little confused why all the "congratulations" are ending up on this particular article...but thanks!

Very nise site. Thanks :)
as it matures & commoditizes
the home router market will become very strenuous and the CE giants are best placed to win because of channel ownership. Cisco has the IP phone business to itself right now, but only until that gets popular enuf & everyone makes them. It's really difficult to do CE at the mass market level unless u have deep pockets (in the $B's) like MSFT, you should never even entertain the thot. The only viable strat is to start small and exit by selling to a giant once you near $100M sales, when the niche will interest them. eg. TiVo will make it, Replay didn't.
