Fast DSL?
While some DSL providers are now offering 6.0Mbps service to those with short line lengths and cable ISPs have been offering 3.0Mbps for some time, the 20Mbps residential speeds seen in other countries have been out of reach for American consumers. In a speech given on Monday in London, Nortel Network's Chief Technical Officer Greg Mumford outlined a vision for broadband where everyone would have a nice, fat DSL pipe.
ArsTechnica: Fast DSL: when will it hit the US market?
I'd prefer FTTH.

coax or fiber will ALWAYS be superior broadband access media. With pairs you jump through hoops backwards to get 6mbps, while with HFC the drops have got megapipe to spare.
We in North America are the best-cabled people in the world, yet rather than take advantage of that, we wallow in our DSL-killing long loops and try to make telcos feel better.
In places where av loop lengths are shorter, 8 to 20 mbps DSL has been available for years. We fall more behind with each passing day.
(btw, Telus has fast DSL in beta deployment.)
... to trench or hang it to your house... plus the peering charges and it's all yours... ;)
I'll share it with the neighbourhood using my new LinkSys WRT54G.
... put you in violation of your T & Cs.... ;)
"Oh, I'm sorry. I don't know how to properly secure this pesky wireless doo-hicky. You mean other people were using my Internet?!"
... you know how to upgrade your firmware to a cracked version, but don't know security? Who are you? Mark Reaume? hehehehehhee
