Mac OS X Tiger: What is the "one more thing"?

By now we've heard about Apple's upcoming release of Mac OS X 10.4, a.k.a. Tiger. It's scheduled for the end of this month: April 29th.

And all of the features are known. Michael Gartenberg gushes about the release, saying he's "still convinced that Tiger is a big deal and it just might be the the best OS on a PC I have ever seen for productivity use".

But we've come to expect something more. Jobs always seems to have a rabbit up his sleeve. Or maybe the new OS really is that good, that installing it/using it IS the rabbit? I can tell people are looking for more info -- my rumours post on 10.4 is getting lots of traffic.

Here's my related but somewhat random rumour: Scoble has been talking Apple a lot lately. Jobs has convinced him to come to Apple to do tablet evangelism (that's the one more thing, and here's my Mac tablet spec) and kickstart Apple's entry into the blogosphere.

What do you think? What are you most looking forward to in Tiger?

I'm most looking forward to getting it...

The wait for my poor little Mac Mini is killing me... at least I'll get the upgrade for $10 since it's taken this long. They better not delay til the 29th (it's supposed to ship by the 18th) so that it ships with it.

Are you getting it for yourself?

Last time we talked, you were getting it for a friend. This one is for you?

I couldn't wait for the Mini and got a PowerMac G5...and now they're going to apparently release new models at the NAB conference.

Nope... not for a friend...

This one is for me, and my friend Sonia ended up getting an iBook :)

iChat AV x 3

The ability to videoconference with three others (and the 10 audio confs is good too), is hot hot hot. Videoconferencing is a distant cousin to videoblogging, since it's real time.

There's a bond that's been formed between people who communicate with video. And what I've seen happen, is sometimes, we just open up channels to our friends and colleagues and let it run. It's like we're there. So to have a couple friends over is a big deal. AND with a little creativity, we can record the sessions.

I promise this... watch what the vloggers do that first week or so.

Forgot about the iChat stuff

It's been so long since I used iChat (I don't have a video camera hooked up, and I use Skype and Adium day-to-day) I had forgotten about the changes coming.

Still murmurs about SIP compatibility...would be nice to have a standards-based audio and video client integrated in. Maybe we'll finally be able to easily buy phone numbers and gateway service.
