MyDMS

• Short for "My Document Management System"
• Good permissions system, support both users and groups, plus a guest account
• Users see only those files/folders for which they have at least "read" access to
• Document meta-deta, including version control, "links" to related files, keywords, and comments
• Supports conversion of MS documents to HTML -- natively on Win32 systems, and using an add-on under Linux

Competition:

OWL

• Very "graphical" interface, with small icons representing each of the functions that can be done to a file or folder
• Current version seemed to be somewhat broken; after uploading file, leaving folder, and coming back, the file would appear to have multiplied, with 10 different instances

SDMS

• Version 1.4 is very basic, doesn't even support users changing their passwords
• Version 2.0 looks much, much better, but current version doesn't even allow for install. It looked good, so I worked at it until some functionality was there, but then I kept hitting broken stuff. Definitely worth a check back
