Anandtech - Review of Shuttle SN41G2 and SK41G

Thanks to Evan's comment I went and dug up the link to Anandtech's review of the new, AMD-based Shuttle barebones boxes.

The SK41G isn't that interesting, but the nForce2-based SN41G2 is my new "top pick" around which to build a media PC.

I had though it included a TV tuner, but that was referring to the TV-out. The nForce2 onboard graphics is definitely powerful enough not to need a video card, so the only additions needed to this box is a TV tuner card.

PowerPC based mini - The BriQ

Speaking of small computers got me thinking of the Terra Soft BriQ computer, a very small PowerPC based computer running Yellow Dog Linux:

I had forgotten about this...

Of course, it's not quite a "media PC". I imagine with OS X, and especially now with Apple's own version of X11, that YDL is not long for this world.

I think IBM is still doing some work on Linux-PPC, but that will be moving to the Power series of processors. Don't know if takes the same distro.

Hmmm...maybe I'm wrong. Just checked out the YDL site, and they're featuring a success story of clustering using XServes.

They also recently announced non-Apple PPC computers.
